Newberry Box
This is a slab box I built with cone 6 stoneware clay. When the box was leather-hard, I took it outside and illustrated the surrounding buttes and ponderosa pines directly into the clay using a sharp pencil. After the bisque fire, I stained and painted the piece with underglazes, then fired it to 2200ºF oxidation in the electric kiln.

This piece won Third Place Best of Show in the 2006 Wildfire Pottery Showcase in Bend, Oregon. (Collection of the Artist) Here are some other boxes I’ve created using a similar method:
Mountain Box

I really like the shapes of your boxes. I often construct stoneware boxes and then either fire in our gas kiln to cone 10 or pit fire them. I think I like the pit fired ones the best. Your boxes have a lovely quality to them.
Very nice designs and forms. It must take a lot of patience, I’m inspired. Thank you.
